Who are we?

OKpanda crafts innovative digital products for learning English. We use our social and gaming backgrounds (73 Million users on Facebook and iOS) to help people learn in novel ways, delivering superior curricula, smart games and context awareness to achieve amazing outcomes.

What do we do?

OKpanda is a venture funded English learning platform that includes instant messaging, live voice, and digital curricula. In the same way Uber allows anybody with a car to be a Limo service, we allow any qualified English teacher to build their own English classroom.

We target the $20 billion English learning space in Asia, 90% of whose revenues still go to brick and mortar language schools. Our focus is Japan, a huge market with horrible learning outcomes where we provide convenient and effective live online instruction and digital learning tools.

The founders are serial entrepreneurs and all code. We have experience scaling applications and services to tens of millions of users with as many as 1500 requests per second on relational and non-relational systems. We move fast, build, iterate and ship constantly.     • To grow big, OKpanda will engage thousands of independent contractors as teachers and serve millions of users. You will be in charge of creating the systems to guarantee both quality and teacher autonomy, a pivotal role requiring very sophisticated thinking about quality assurance systems, training, reporting systems and protocols.
    • We will give you all the resources you need to conquer this challenge. In turn, you will bring the hustle, tenacity and creativity to build the plan and execute on it.


    • Define protocols and systems for teacher review and assessment, substitution, absence, and catastrophe planning (internet, electricity failure, etc.)
    • Define and oversee customer service systems and community management.
    • Define and develop training systems such that new teachers can be onboarded with minimal management intervention
    • Define and oversee the overall package to keep teacher motivation high and allow hiring
    • Think about teacher and user psychology to devise improved motivation structures
    • Lead the development of admin and analytics systems for chat/voice quality assurance
    • Develop strategies to improve our conversion funnel and student onboarding
    • Create business models for live teaching, including load planning (students/teacher/hour)


    • Ensure that 98% of lessons are initiated by teachers within 2 minutes of their defined start time.
    • Have a review and ratings system that allows us to intelligently segment the quality of teachers' performance in terms of customer satisfaction within 1 month of work start. This should be accurate enough that we would feel comfortable ceasing work with the bottom 10%-20% of teachers from the platform.
    • A new teacher should be ready to start accepting students in a completely self guided way, within 24 hours of accepting our offer, including administrative functions and training protocols (without human management intervention).
    • Create a teacher package and incentivization model to attract 300 teachers in 6 months
    • 3+ years demonstrated success in designing and overseeing the execution of top notch web or mobile products for business operations
